Barclays raises six fixed rates by up to 22bps, mostly for existing customers, while trimming 90% LTV purchase fixes by up to 10bps
From 16 October, Barclays is raising six fixed rates by between 13 and 22 basis points, mostly existing-customer and remortgage deals, taking its three-year 60% LTV fee-free existing-customer fix from 5.13% to 5.35%, while cutting 90% LTV purchase fixes by 5 to 10 basis points, with its five-year Premier purchase deal down from 5.23% to 5.13%. Repricing in both directions at once usually reflects a lender managing how much business it wants in each part of the market, and this round leans towards new purchase borrowers with smaller deposits. For buyers with a 10% deposit, it is a small saving; for homeowners coming to the end of a fix, it is a reason to compare a product-transfer offer against the wider market before accepting it. The moves are small and, alongside this week's cuts elsewhere, point to rates adjusting at the margins rather than a clear turn.
