Barclays raises 62 mortgage deals for the second time in a week, with some fixed rates up 40bps
Barclays repriced 62 products on 1 October, 46 of them for a second time this week, taking the cumulative rise on some deals to 40bps: a two-year fix at 60% LTV has moved from 4.75% to 5.15%, and a five-year remortgage fix at 60% LTV from 5.02% to 5.32%. Halifax Intermediaries also pushed rates higher the same day, which points to a wider lender repricing rather than one lender's decision. For buyers, the cheapest fixed deals are being withdrawn and replaced at higher rates, so a rate secured now may be worth more than one planned for later; for sellers, a higher cost of borrowing can narrow what buyers are able to offer. Mortgage Strategy gave no stated reason for the Barclays moves, and the changes apply to selected products, not every deal on the market.
