Average UK room rent hits a record £769 a month in Q3 as advertised supply falls 4.7%, SpareRoom reports
SpareRoom's Q3 index puts the average UK room rent at a record £769 a month, up 1% on a year earlier, with the number of rooms advertised down 4.7% after three years of strong growth in supply. Rents reached record levels in seven of the nine English regions, with only Greater London and the North East missing out, which shows tight supply is now feeding through outside the capital. For buyers, higher rents make saving a deposit harder for people renting rooms, which weighs on first-time buyer demand. For sellers, it supports demand from landlords and keeps rental yields firm, but annual growth of 1% is modest, so this is a steady squeeze rather than a surge.
